Curriculum Design

Our academic curriculum at St. Basil School is determined by standards set by the Diocese of Sacramento in conjunction with California State California Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

Students in grades K-8 receive daily instruction in the following core subjects:

  • Religion
  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • Science
  • ELA (Reading Vocabulary, Grammar, Phonics, Writing, Spelling, Literature)

All curriculum is supplemented with internet based applications.

Religion

In St. Basil's religion classes, students learn how to know, love, and serve God. Our curriculum is based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and covers a variety of topics including Scripture, Sacraments, Church History, Faith in Action, and the Liturgical Year. During the school year, our second graders receive their First Reconciliation and First Communion, and our eighth graders are Confirmed. The school also participates in service projects during the seasons of Advent and Lent. Finally, our students, faculty, and staff attend Mass every Thursday morning at 8:30am.

Students in grades K-8 also receive weekly instruction and enrichment opportunities, by our Specials teachers, in the following subjects:

Technology Literacy

This program is designed to support students in the use of computers to acquire the implied technological skills necessary to achieve mastery in the common core standards. The curriculum includes topics such as general computer use and terminology, keyboarding, file management and workflow, digital citizenship, office productivity applications (word processing, spreadsheets, slideshows), educational tools and research, coding and webdesign, 3D modelling, and basic graphic design as appropriate for each grade level, Kindergarten through eighth grade.

Physical Education

Supervised periods of physical education for all students are held on a regular basis (except for those who are legitimately excused in writing for health reasons). Skill development, nutrition, sportsmanship, and physical exercise are the key elements of the program in grades TK - 8.

Spanish

A general introduction to the Spanish language and culture is offered in Grades TK- 8.

Fine Arts
