Our academic curriculum at St. Basil School is determined by standards set by the Diocese of Sacramento in conjunction with California State California Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

Students in grades K-8 receive daily instruction in the following core subjects:

  • Religion
  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • Science
  • ELA (Reading Vocabulary, Grammar, Phonics, Writing, Spelling, Literature)

All curriculum is supplemented with internet based applications.

Religion

In St. Basil's religion classes, students learn how to know, love, and serve God. Our curriculum is based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and covers a variety of topics including Scripture, Sacraments, Church History, Faith in Action, and the Liturgical Year. During the school year, our second graders receive their First Reconciliation and First Communion, and our eighth graders are Confirmed. The school also participates in service projects during the seasons of Advent and Lent. Finally, our students, faculty, and staff attend Mass every Thursday morning at 8:30am.

Physical Education

We believe in nurturing the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. Our Physical Education program goes beyond just fitness; it's about instilling lifelong habits of health, teamwork, and sportsmanship, all within the framework of our Catholic values. Through engaging activities, skill-building exercises, and collaborative games, students develop not only their physical abilities but also their character and resilience. Physical Education is offered for Kindergarten-8th grade.

In our classrooms, students explore the wonders of the natural world, harness the power of technology, and unlock the secrets of innovation—all while deepening their understanding of God's creation. Through hands-on experiments, collaborative projects, and real-world applications, we inspire students to become curious thinkers, problem solvers, and stewards of the world around them.
